We have demonstrated that an implantable vaccine at the time of surgery can eliminate residual tumor and generate a systemic antitumor immune response (Delitto et al., Oncoimmunology, 2021).

 

This represents a promising avenue in locoregional therapy that leverages the immune system to in the perioperative period. We are now optimizing the hydrogel backbone of this system with the help of Dr. Chaudhuri in preparation for large animal trials.
